Developmental therapy is used for disabled adults to increase their independence and to improve their overall living skills. Participants work on a wide variety of goals also known as "programs" geared toward acquiring these skills. These include self-care skills, receptive and expressive language skills, learning skills, self-direction skills, capacity of independent living, and economic self-sufficiency skills. Services are delivered in center and community-based settings. High Valley also replicates home settings for programs intended to improve in-home living skills.
Adult Day Health services are intended to allow the participants to choose the activity they participate in. This includes leisure activities such as card games, video games, watching movies, arts and crafts, and fun, productive tasks. Participants may also enter the community with the supervision of a coach to experience a change of environment and have fun!
Before receiving services, a Developmental Specialist will meet and work directly with the participant and the participant's family to form an individualized list of goals also known as "programs". Programs are intended to meet the specific wants and needs of the participant.
Adult Day Health services are generally run on Thursdays and Fridays. Participants are encouraged to choose the activities they engage in. These can include leisure activities in the center or fun activities in the community!
